  • Background and Program Change

    • For more than a decade, the Pascagoula-Gautier School District (PGSD) has benefited from participation in the USDA’s free meal programs, supporting students and families across our two communities.

    • Due to recent economic growth and improved financial stability within our communities, the district no longer participates in these programs.

    • This transition reflects the continued progress and resilience of our communities and highlights the positive economic trends shaping our cities’ future.

  • District Support During the Transition

    • After the free meal programs phased out in the 2023-2024 school year, PGSD continued to cover a substantial portion of meal costs during the 2024–2025 and 2025–2026 school years to allow meals to remain free.

    • For the 2026–2027 school year, the PGSD Board of Trustees has voted to:

      • Cover the cost of breakfast for all pre-K through 6th grade students who are not already eligible for free or reduced-price meals.

      • Return all K–12 students to the standard pricing program for lunch. ($3.25 for paid, 40 cents for reduced)

  • Community Assistance and Guidance

    • PGSD remains fully committed to supporting families during this transition.

    • Families needing assistance are encouraged to contact the PGSD Child Nutrition Department directly (228-938-6525)  to receive accurate information and proper support.

    • The district will continue proactive communication to ensure information reaches all households.
